Today, we begin our new series, "Face to Face with God".

Over the next 5 weeks, we will look at a number of one on one, personal encounters through the book of Matthew.

Hebrews 1:3 tells us that Jesus is the exact representation of God. Even Jesus Himself noted that seeing Him is to see the Father.

As we explore these face to face encounters with the person of Jesus, we will gain an insight into the very nature of God.

Excited? Let's get into it.
We begin with a picture of a man on his knees before Jesus, with a simple question.

But this seemingly simple question is neither simple, nor specific to the man in question. It is, in fact, a question that lies at the heart of so many other questions we have about God.

The question is not is God able. The question is, is He willing?
Lost in the crowd, or one in 7.6 billion?
Jesus was constantly followed by crowds. At times, he couldn't even enter a town for the amount of people following and crowding Him.

But he stopped...for one man...

Do you feel lost in the crowd? Like there's so much going on that you're just insignificant? Do you think God feels the same way?
The man in this story had leprosy. Not a cold, not a broken leg. Leprosy.

He was not only unclean physically, but also spiritually, religiously, socially. Society's belief was that no-one would touch him, let alone God.

But Jesus, moved by compassion, broke free of that stigma, reached out and touched him.

Do you believe God wants to touch your life? Or do you think you're just too bad, too gone, too unclean?
Ruined or Restored? (one touch changes everything)
In Jewish spirituality, to touch someone unclean was to take that uncleanliness on yourself, but Jesus reverses this.

Jesus shows that it is not the touch of the unclean that makes others unclean, but that it is the touch of the divine that makes the unclean clean.

Jesus' touch does not just bring the man physical restoration, but restoration to all areas of his life.

Do you still believe your problems are too big for God?
Jesus shows us a God who cares for the one in the crowd
If that is who God is, then who should we be?

Life Group Discussion Questions Below

As our life groups gather this week, we have attached our reference verse and some questions to prompt a deeper discussion and search into this week's topic.

If you are not currently part of a life group, and would like to join a small group of like minded people in fellowship and connection during the week, please contact Nick on 0417472474 to register your interest.
1. How would you describe God?
2. Who and what has contributed to your understanding of who God is?
3. If Jesus is the exact representation of God, what does the above verse show us about who God is?
4. What is the biggest barrier in your life to understanding God as he has been revealed by Jesus?
Pray for your life group, and others you may feel led to pray for, that we may know God more, and grow ever closer to Him.
