Perseverance [Part 12]
“Perseverance in Sobriety”
(1 Peter 4:1-7)

In this study we'll explore Perseverance through the lens of the sobriety.

Perseverance defined:
(1) patient endurance in the face of adversity or opposition
(2) repeated behavior in spite of resistance

Sobriety defined:
(1) State or quality of being sober. Seriousness, gravity, or solemnity
(2) Abstaining from wine

What is your present spiritual posture?
Sober Living Involves…

I. Looking back at Christ's suffering and our sin.
Lewdness = shameless pleasure seeking
Lusts = longing for the forbidden
Drunkenness = overflow of wine
Revelries = letting loose of all inhibition
Drinking parties = drinking environments that encourage alcohol consumption
Abominable idolatries = worship of idols (people/objects/habits) that even the world detests
Sober Living Involves…

I. Looking back at Christ's suffering and our sin.
• The cross alone provides us with a proper view of sin.

II. Looking out for non-Christians who are confused and judgment bound.

II. Looking out for non-Christians who are confused and judgment bound.
• We can live seeking His approval or the world's, but not both!

III. Looking up for assistance.

Question for consideration:

What tangible step can you take to better reflect Christ to others?
