“In your anger, don’t sin.” Ephesians 4:26
FOUR ways people commonly express their anger.
1. THE MANIAC
“The LORD looked with respect on Abel and his offering…” Genesis 4:4
“but for Cainand his offering He had not respect...So Cain became extremely indignant, and he looked annoyed and hostile.”” Genesis 4:5
"And the Lord said to Cain, 'Why are you so angry? And why do you look annoyed, why is your face so dark with rage?” Genesis 4:6
“If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right (ignoring God’s instructions), sin is lying in wait for you, ready to pounce; it’s out to get you, you’ve got to master it… rule over it… conquer it.” Genesis 4:7
“Cain talked with Abel his brother [about what God had said]. And when they were [alone, working] in the field, Cain [d]attacked Abel his brother and killed him.” Genesis 4:8
The Hebrew meaning for the word used here for not accepting Cain’s gift is, RESPECT. Cain was angry because… “Cain did not get God’s respect.”
2. THE MUTE
“I stayed by myself and was filled with anger. Why do I keep on suffering? Why are my wounds incurable? Why won’t they heal?” Jeremiah 15:17-18
3. THE MARTYR
“But the elder brother became angry and deeply resentful and was not willing to go in; and his father came out and began pleading with him.” Luke 15:28
4. THE MANIPULATOR
“At this, the enemies of Jesus were wild with rage and began to plot his murder.” Luke 6:11
HOW TO DIFUSE YOUR ANGER
4 DIFFERENT WAYS
FIRST: Understand why you get angry
“A man’s wisdom gives him patience.” Proverbs 19:11
THREE COMMON CAUSES of anger that are far deeper than your anger:
1. When you're hurt.
2. Frustration causes anger.
3. Insecurity causes anger.
“Don’t pay attention to everything people say.” Ecclesiastes 7:21
“Reverence for the Lord gives confidence and security to a man.” Proverbs 14:26
SECOND: Look to God… not others, for your self-worth.
THIRD: Stop and think before reacting.
FORTH: Learn to relax.
1) Be aware when tension is building up in your life.
2) Learn some relaxation techniques.
3) Develop a sense of humor.
FIFTH: Continually ask God for help.
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23
