There are few things as divisive as politics. Families are divided. Marriages are divided. Our communities have been divided. Even our church is divided by politics. And that’s nothing new, but I’m not sure we can ignore the escalation that is occurring because of our current political climate, especially when that climate intersects so directly with Jesus. Because we have unprecedented division, we also have an unprecedented opportunity to model for our community and our country what it looks like to disagree politically and...love unconditionally.
The week of November 3rd, one political party’s candidate will win a national election for President and one will lose. The church will win or lose by how we treat each other everyday up to that week. The win for the church is ONE.
When the concerns of others concern you and you act, you are fulfilling the law of Christ.
And it’s right here, at this command where agreement ends and diverse views begin. Because love is incredibly nuanced and diverse, and how we act to help others is largely determined by our view of the problem.
Jesus said, “I will build my church, and the gates of hell will not overcome it.” And he did. And it didn’t. And here we are. And it is still our responsibility to show our divided world what it looks like to be one. So disagree politically, but love unconditionally.
