“Walk Worthy” series.
The Word of God enables us to Walk Worthy of God.

For this reason also, since the day we heard of it (your faith in the Gospel), we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light. For He rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1.9-14
How many ills of society would disappear if Christians led the way, in this way:
“But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.” James 3.17 ESV
Christians can base their opinions and choices from a source greater than themselves. They use a source called God’s Will and God’s Wisdom.
The Word of God gives us the Will of God.
My take-away:
I will form my opinions and choose my decisions based on knowing the Word of God.
1. The big C is Creator. God has both the right to rule and the Wisdom to deliver Good Instructions.
2. The Bible is God’s life instruction manual to us.
3. It is very comforting to be able to say, “Let’s see what the Bible says.” I’m not arguing for my opinion or preferences. I’m simply saying I want to base my opinions/conclusions and then my decisions on the Bible. If you don’t then you just base your lives on what ‘sounds’ best at the moment.
4. Life is too short and precious to live by experiment. Life is your only one opportunity. Why would you want your life to be an experiment?
I will form my opinions and choose my decisions based on knowing the Word of God.
The Bible will make you better. “People want to know the Bible. They know the Bible will make them better.”
The Bible will make you wiser. “Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies (adversaries/opponents).” Psalm 119.98
The Bible will make you happier. Look at the first verses of The Word chapter – Psalm 119.
The Word of God will:
Keep you in good standing with God.
“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.” Psalms 119:11 NLT
Keep you in good standing with people.
“Had David not been so close to God’s heart, he could have interpreted this moment as one God provided for him to kill Saul and become king.
Instead, he knew it was an opportunity to kill his own fleshly desires and crown God ruler. What pivotal, character-building opportunities are you facing? Are you looking to crown yourself or to crown you God?” YouVersion; Go after God’s heart.
Proverbs 15.1:
A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare.
Keep you from deceiving yourself:
“Keep me from lying to myself; give me the privilege of knowing your instructions.”
Psalms 119:29 NLT
I will form my opinions and choose my decisions based on knowing the Word of God.
“I have chosen to be faithful; I have determined to live by your regulations.” Psalms 119:30 NLT
Here’s a way to begin to form ‘value’ opinions and make decisions that make the world better: read/listen to Psalm 119 for 4 days in a row and write down 3 insights each day.
Small Groups this Fall
Expand
Would you join or start a small group this Fall. Here are some that will be offered:
1. We are the church… let’s Act like it.
Many people think the church has become a social club with little impact on the world. That is not God’s plan for the church. “We Are the Church . . . Let’s Act Like It” takes readers through the book of Acts, looking at what it means to be the church of Jesus Christ, the world-changing church that Jesus intended.

In We Are the Church... Linda Tower Pevey offers the church practical and biblical ways to live out its mandate to be a church that positively impacts its community and the world.

We Are the Church… Let’s Act Like It is a 7-week study that helps readers see the biblical vision for the church and a vision for what the church can be today. In it, Pevey offers encouragement that the church can truly be a transformative presence in the world, just as the early church was in the book of Acts.
Learn the book of Acts and how you can be part of it’s continuing story of today.
2. A second small group option is to help people who would like to lead a small group; a small group for small group leaders. Deryl and others will coach leaders through the RightNow Media series called 6 TIPS FOR A GREAT SMALL GROUP by BILL SEARCH
3. Would you like to work on making your financial picture into a better picture? We are designing a small group that will teach and encourage you to be a better steward of the resources that God gives to all of us.
These and others are being offered both as in-person and including Zoom for those participating at a distance.
4. Another small group planned for the future in an in-person setting will be based on the book: “Big Prayer.”
5. One of our members is doing a small group Bible study at Hope House Transitional Living for women. She would like to have other ladies assisting and ministering to the ladies present.
Contact the church office for more information and to register to join with the leaders of these. 522-6020.
