Hebrews 5:1-10 emphasizes the role of the Priest

Priests of biblical significance:
· Aaron (Exodus 28:1-2)
· Melchizedek (Genesis 14, Hebrews 5-7)
· Jesus (Hebrews 5:9-10)
· Believers (1 Peter 2:9)

Priestly purpose and impact:
· To represent the glory, majesty, and holiness of God to people
· To represent the sinfulness, humility, repentance, and faith of people to God.
· To inspire people to holy living
· To foreshadow the glory of Christ and the exclusive way of salvation and intimacy with God (Colossians 2:17)
Hebrews 5:11-14 examines the responsibility of the Pupil

Immature or undeveloped disciples
· Can't feed themselves
· Can't grasp challenging truth
· Can't nurture and develop others spiritually

Maturing or developing disciples
· Feeds themselves daily through prayer and the devotional reading of Scripture.
· Is soundly confirmed in their salvation.
· Practices the way of righteousness through faith, obedience, and repentance.
· Invests his spiritual influence, knowledge, experience to make disciples.
· Develops a keen sensitivity to what delights and what grieves God.
Benediction Blessing from Hebrews 5
May you be ever thankful of Jesus' role as your high priest before God.
May you be ever faithful in your priestly influence upon others.
May you be ever humble in the presence of our holy God.
May you be ever progressing in your spiritual development in Christ.
And may you be ever joyful to be welcomed into the presence of God,
the very Holy of Holies, because of faith in Jesus' sacrifice for you.
