Intro:
A. We’ve been talking about relationships with people and with God, It’s not an easy task, it takes some commitment
B. Galatians 6:9-10 (CEV) – Don’t get tired of helping others. You will be rewarded when the time is right if you don’t give up. 10 We should help people whenever we can, especially if they are followers of the Lord.
C. Commitment isn't just about what your calendar looks like
D. It's about being devoted/dedicated to something or someone
E. Everyone is committed to something, work, leisure time, recreation, or committed to doing nothing
F. What am I really committed to?
1. Committed to God
A. Proverbs 16:3 – Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.
B. Psalm 37:5 – Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.
C. 1 Kings 8:61 – And may you be completely faithful to the Lord our God. May you always obey his decrees and commands, just as you are doing today.”
D. Real commitment isn’t a part-time Sunday thing, it’s 24/365
E. It’s something we live ALL week, & it shows
F. Your commitments show through what you produce
G. Attitudes, behaviors, speech are products of your commitments
2. Committed to Each Other
A. Family is where it starts, kids need to see committed parents
B. When was the last time you loved on someone for no reason?
C. When was the last time you said I’m Sorry?
D. Marriage/Parenting takes sacrifice, determination, and commitment
E. When was the last time you told your family, you loved them?
F. Teach your family by your example, by your commitment
G. Scripture teaches men to love their wives sacrificially, to put them above themselves
H. It teaches wives to respect that kind of husband
I. It teaches both husband & wife to be active participants in the task of running a Christ centered home.
J. It teaches kids to not just obey, but to honor their parents
K. God’s plan will work if we’re committed to it
L. Husbands, have no problem loving a respectful wife
M. Wives no problem being respectful to a loving selfless husband
N. Kids have no problem loving parents who love them and who love God and teach them God's truth
3. Committed to church
A. Are we committed to attending
B. It was no option growing up, we went to church.
C. Now people are just too tired or busy to go on Sunday, maybe we're just to busy!
D. Church is where you learn & grow, where you meet lifelong friends, where you laugh & cry, where you’re accepted
E. Are we committed to church growth?
F. Did we talk to people this week? About Jesus stuff?
G. Did we invite someone, or were we just to busy?
H. People have the “let someone else do it mentality”
I. Illustration: This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, & Nobody. There was an important job to be done & Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.
J. Are we committed to soul winning and discipling others?
K. We're called to build this church & help change people’s lives
L. We’re all committed to something, it just might not be the best thing!!
