Chestnut Ridge Church
Nine - Part 6: Faithfulness
What are we, as Christians, supposed to be like? What qualities should be evident in our lives? The Apostle Paul, in Galatians 5, listed nine amazing Christ-like attributes that are called, “the fruit of the Spirit.” This series, Nine, will explore these attributes and will answer the question, How do we get them in our lives?

Nine - Part 6: Faithfulness [June 17, 2018] Tim Haring

Problem: Can people count on us?
Solution: Let your yes be yes

Faithfulness is the quality which renders a person trustworthy or reliable, like the faithful servant in Luke 16:10–12.

The Jews were great ones for using various oaths to back up their statements. They were careful, however, not to use the name of God in their oaths, lest they blaspheme God. So, they would swear by heaven, or earth, or Jerusalem, or even by their own heads! But Jesus taught that it is impossible to avoid God in such oaths. Heaven is [God’s] throne, earth is His footstool, and Jerusalem is the “city of the great King.” As for swearing by your head, what good is it? “[You can’t] make one hair black or white”—or even keep one hair on your head.

The person who must use many words (including oaths) to convince us has something wrong with his character and must bolster this weakness by using words. If you are a true Christian, with integrity, then all you have to say is yes or no and people will believe you.

Are you someone people trust?
Do you do what you say you will do?
Do people believe you when you say something?
Are you faithful to yourself?
