Love Over Fear: Show Us The Father
Welcome! This fall we are exploring the theme of "Love Over Fear", using biblical passages and themes from Dan White, Jr.'s book by that title. Many have said that this season is the most divisive in recent history for our nation. What does it look like for people who are loved by God to learn to love their enemies and bring healing to our polarized world? We hope you'll join us on the journey! Be sure to join us each week, in person or online, at 10:30am, or

• Ladies, this week, First Fridays is combining with the new Connection and Coffee and will meet outdoors under the ECC portico from 9:30-11:00am with space for socially-distanced gathering. It will be hosted by Lynette Hamer. Bring a drink and a chair and have some fun!

Believer Baptisms
We will be holding Believer Baptisms on October 11. For those who have come to know and seek to follow Christ, Baptism can be an important step. Baptism is an outward and visible sign of something that is inward and invisible. It's the place we make public profession of our faith in Christ, making it known to others. If you've never been baptized and feel that you are at that place in your own faith journey where it is time to take that step, we invite you to contact the office.
Marriage Night
We are planning to host a Marriage Night from RightNow Media on October 10 from 7:00-10:30pm at ECC with social distancing. The Marriage Night seeks to encourage couples in their marriage while pointing them to our faithful God. We hope the Marriage Night will be a meaningful and refreshing time for you and your spouse. Tickets are $15 per person. If you are interested in this event, please go to to register.

Love Over Fear: Show Us The Father
September 27, 2020
Seventeenth Sunday After Pentecost
Kristin Devine Mueller, Director of Children's Ministry
Write this week's Good News Statement below:
Questions to ponder:
Jesus told Philip in John 14 that “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.” Jesus is our clearest image of God, yet we still don’t always see God clearly. In what ways is your picture of God still unclear and blurry?
Question to ponder:
When we don’t have a clear view of God, we don’t represent God clearly to others. How might your own misperceptions of God create a barrier in freely extending God’s love to another person?
Questions to ponder.
God puts on flesh in the person of Jesus so that God can reveal himself to his people. What is most surprising to you about the revelation of God in Jesus?
Question to ponder:
In Love Over Fear, Dan White Jr. says that fear pushes us away from people, but “Love ultimately pulls us outward, toward others, toward the stranger, the widow, the foreigner, the poor, and most shockingly, toward our enemies” (p. 54-55). Where has fear driven you away from someone who is different from you? How can love pull you toward that same person?
A practice to engage.
Our invitation is to abide with God in the same deep way that Jesus himself abides with the Father. One way that we can dwell with God is through God’s Word. Choose one practice from the Soul Training web page ( to engage in a deeper way with God’s Word this week.
Practices to engage.
Each and every person is a part of God’s creation, and each and every person bears the image of God. When we let fear push us away from others, we create categories of “Us vs. Them.” We have a hard time seeing the image of God in those who are different from us. Identify one person you can move toward, with love this week. How can you engage them in a simple conversation so that you can get to know them better and see that person more clearly?
Prayer for the Seventeenth Sunday after Pentecost
O God, you declare your almighty power chiefly in showing mercy and pity: Grant us the fullness of your grace, that we, running to obtain your promises, may become partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
