I’m a Christian, What Now?
Jesus is the Difference!
When you come to know Christ you are different than before, Jesus is the difference.
1 John 5:12
“Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
2 Timothy 1:9
“Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.”
1 Peter 1:8-9
“Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.”
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved.”
The Gospel Explained
God created us to enjoy a relationship with himself.
Our sin has separated us from a holy God and caused spiritual death in us.
Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became human, lived a perfect life, died, and was resurrected to pay sin’s penalty of death.
Trusting in Christ eternally unites us with him and other believers.
Our new relationship with Christ gives us his presence and purpose in life.
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
The Truth About Your New Relationship with Christ
Christ forgave your sin.
“He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Christ made you a child of God.
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."
Christ came into your life and will never leave you.
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.”
Christ began a new life in you.
2 Corinthians 5:17
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
Christ gave you eternal life.
1 John 5:11-13
“And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.”
What are the next steps in the Christian Life?
Pray with a thankful heart!
“We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints."
Faith—genuine trust in Christ!
Love—love for God and others!
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”
Hope—Hope in what is to come!
Think of what is in Heaven because of God’s grace displayed through Jesus:
Our names are recorded in Heaven.
“…but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”
Our fellow Believers are in Heaven.
Our inheritance is in Heaven.
1 Peter 1:3-4
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.”
Our reward is in Heaven.
“Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.”
Our Treasure is in Heaven.
“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
Jesus has secured all of this and more for us!
Jesus is alive and he lives in Heaven.
“And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.’ ”
He will return.
1 Thessalonians 1:9-10
“For they themselves report concerning us the kind of reception we had among you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.”
We are not waiting for an event but a person.
“But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
What Should We Do?
1. Get to know the Jesus who saved you!
2. Pray to God as his child not a stranger!
3. Fill your heart with God’s Word since you now know the author!
4. Look up...the best is yet to come!
5. Live so that others hunger for Heaven!
