Heartland Community Church
Sunday Worship April 8, 2018
Join us this Sunday as we check our vision- because it has to be clear, compelling, and courageously audacious. If we can accomplish our vision without God, it's not a big enough vision! Here at Heartland our vision is to see everyone sent to serve as disciples who make disciples. Let's look at what that means, how we live into that, and what it means to you this Sunday at 10:45am!

Welcome to Heartland!
We're so glad you joined us for worship this morning! We hope you feel welcome, at home, and encounter God in a meaningful way. We'd love to get to know you, so please take a moment to fill out a Connection Card and then drop it in the offering plate. We hope the music inspires you, the message encourages and challenges you, and our people make you feel at home! Thanks for joining us this morning!

Online Giving

Everything we do at Heartland starts with you. Working together, we accomplish more than any of us could alone. We encourage people to give generously as God has given to them, knowing we can't outgive God! One of the best ways to grow spiritually is through serving. We'd love to get you plugged into a service opportunity that fits who you are, whether that's greeting, teaching a Sunday School class, cuddling the babies in the nursery, organizing other volunteers, singing, helping with security/safety, or baking up delicious goodies. Check out the bulletin board for opportunities to serve and be the church! For more information contact Pastor Matt (matts@heartlandgb.com or 913-216-3631) or Lori (lorij@heartlandgb.com).
Sermon Notes & Scripture
"Own the Vision"
Pastor Matt Schaffner
Vision (n): the act or power of seeing; the ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom; mental image of what the future will or could be like.
Mission (n): the business with which a group is charged; an important goal or purpose that is accompanied by strong conviction; being sent for a duty or purpose.
Vision is the goal, our mission is how we make the vision reality.
Common problems with our vision are it being too small, too easy, mildly challenging but doable, overly vague, or only man-sized.
A God-sized vision must be clear, compelling, courageously audacious, and coming.
Any vision worth pursuing needs to be God-sized, meaning that if God is not in it there is no possible way it can ever be accomplished!
If it's a God-sized vision, owning the vision starts with understanding the vision.
"Write my answer plainly..."
Owning the vision means moving us from understanding to action because the vision is compelling.
"...so that a runner can carry the correct message to others..."
A clear, compelling, God-sized vision must also be courageously audacious- but not for anything other than the kingdom of God!
"This vision is for a future time. It describes the end..."
If we understand the vision, feel compelled to act on it, it's too big for us to accomplish without God, is focused on God's kingdom and not our own, we can passionately work towards its fulfillment knowing that it is coming like the rising of the sun.
"...it will be fulfilled...wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed."

What is our vision?
Everyone at Heartland is sent to serve as disciples who make disciples.
Our vision: Is it clear? Is it compelling? Is it God-sized? Is it courageously audacious? Is it coming?
What is our mission?
To connect everyone we possibly can to God, His church, and their God-given purpose as disciples who make disciples.
Our mission: Is it clear? Is it compelling? Is it God-sized? Is it courageously audacious? Is it coming?
Monday is coming!
What happens Sunday is only as meaningful as what you do with it the rest of the week. Our vision is God sized, but each of us has to work at living it out for it to matter! Join us in asking some important questions as we read the Bible together and ask ourselves the question, "Where do I want to be next year at this time?"
