Stop The Drama WK 3 – Excuses

15Hearing this, a man sitting at the table with Jesus exclaimed, “What a blessing it will be to attend a banquet in the Kingdom of God!”
Luke 14:1

Kingdom of God Rom 14:17 Righteousness, peace and joy NO DRAMA
17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, Romans 14:17

Kingdom of God = Righteousness, Peace & Joy

Are you right with God and others?
Are you at peace
Do you have joy?

16 Jesus replied with this story: “A man prepared a great feast and sent out many invitations. 17 When the banquet was ready, he sent his servant to tell the guests, ‘Come, the banquet is ready.’ 18 But they all began making excuses. One said, ‘I have just bought a field and must inspect it. Please excuse me.’ 19 Another said, ‘I have just bought five pairs of oxen, and I want to try them out. Please excuse me.’ 20 Another said, ‘I just got married, so I can’t come.’ Luke 14:15-20

WHAT ARE EXCUSES?
Stubborn rationalizations that defend rebellious behavior.
Symptom = excuses
Source = stubbornness
Solution = obedience

TWO KINDS OF PEOPLE:
Those who make PROGRESS and those who make EXCUSES.

4 The Lord gave me this message: 5 “I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:4-5

6 “O Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I can’t speak for you! I’m too young!”
Jeremiah 1:6

7 The Lord replied, “Don’t say, ‘I’m too young,’ for you must go wherever I send you and say whatever I tell you.8 And don’t be afraid of the people, for I will be with you and will protect you. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
Jeremiah 1:7-8

To stop the drama in our lives we must be sensitive to God’s moving, His direction and prompting. We cannot be stiff, stuck and stubborn to what God is leading us to do.

How To Stop The Drama Of Excuses

1. Are you listening to the right voice?
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
John 10:27

2. What area of your life does God want you to make progress?
6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns. Philippians 1:

Spiritual growth, physical health, family, finances… When you know what the God of the universe wants for you; and when you agree with God that it should be different, there is no excuse on earth that can keep it from happening.

There is a difference between a me centered good intention and a God centered intention.

3. Why does God want you to make progress in that area?

10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
John 10:10

God wants to provide for you and protect you. He is a God of provision and protection.

When I address the source of my excuses, stubbornness and empowered by God’s make progress in the “what and whys” the drama goes down in my life.

Next Move:

Prayer:

Forgive me of the drama that stubbornness in my heart has cause. I ask you to empower me to stop making excuses. God you are not going to condemn me in my confession you are going to help me. God, may I hear your voice and connect the what and the why of your instructions. Empower me to make progress and not excuses. God stop the drama in my life as I focus on you for my contentment.

First Move:

For God says, "At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you." Indeed, the "right time" is now. Today is the day of salvation.
2 Corinthians 6:2

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Romans 1:20
