For the past three weeks, we’ve been talking about how to press through difficulties or challenges that get in the way of experiencing God’s best for our lives.
The first thing we talked about in this series was this:

· Pressing through is tied to who we are relying on. As Christ-followers, it’s not “what” we are pressing toward but “Who” we are pressing toward that makes the difference.
· Second, if we are going to press through and experience the life God has for us it will take COURAGE.

Courage is not the absence of fear but the judgment that something else is more important than fear. The brave may not live forever but the cautious do not live at all. For now, you are traveling the road between who you think you are and who you can be”. - Meg Cabot
· Our main thought last week was, When we “agree with” and “act on” God’s Word, it will build us up, lift us up and ultimately set us up for winning our race. Word Up!
· Today, I want to talk about how running your race will require a willingness to make adjustments that align your heart to God’s heart.
Let’s be clear, Life is a series of major and minor adjustments.

· Some of you went to college to become a mechanical or civil engineer but then adjusted your major after discovering that math was not your forte.

· Some of you thought you were going to travel the world before getting married and having children but that was 3 kids ago.

· Some of you thought you would be a millionaire by 30.
We all begin our race with plans and ambitions and then discover that we may need to make some adjustments in those plans.

The key for the Christ-follower is to Make sure the plans you are working on are aligned with the One who created you.

We all make adjustments in the race but it’s important to make adjustments that keep us on track with the prize, which is our relationship with Jesus.

As a follower of Christ, I wanted to align my life with God’s purpose and plan for me.
Some of you are being nudged by the Holy Spirit to make an adjustment for the one you love the most. God is calling you to step into a new thing, a new place or a new commitment.
Have you ever heard the word “calibration”? One of the definition for calibration is The adjustment of the instrument to bring it into alignment with the standard.
It comes down to this simple truth, Winning the race is all about aligning your heart to God’s purpose and plan for your life.

God is the standard, and winning the race is all about calibrating all of our decisions, goals and desires to Him.
When we calibrate our lives to anything other than God and His Word we always get off track.

The standard in our lives should determine the decisions in our lives. Even when those decisions are difficult the standard should be our guide.
Let me give you some examples:

When you are thinking about dating someone what guides your decision? Looks? Free dinner? Loneliness? Sexual drive? Companionship or God?

Asking God for guidance on who to date before dating them, is a good way to stay on track with God’s purpose and plan for your life.
Spending your money: God doesn’t want His children to be enslaved to debt but a lot of the decisions we make with our money cause us to become indebted in one way or another.

Taking some time to pray and evaluate your purchases or investments is a great way to avoid getting off track with God’s financial plan for your life. (FPU Feb. 6th at our North Campus and Feb. 8th here at the Valley).
Maybe you are sitting there thinking, “I think I need to adjust my dating strategy” or “I need to make God and His Word my go-to financial counselor.

Life is a series of major and minor adjustments and when those adjustments are made to honor God you are setting yourself up for great things.
Maybe you feel like you’ve messed up or strayed from God, just ask Him to forgive you. He can get you back on track to win the race. You have GRACE for the RACE. What’s GRACE? God’s ability to do in you what you don’t have the ability to do.

As a Christ-follower, adjusting our lives to God’s purpose and plan is the key to winning the race.
But how do we calibrate or adjust our lives to God’s purpose and plan?

1. Listen and obey His voice.

One of my favorite examples of this is found in 1 Samuel 3. Samuel was a little boy who had been dedicated to the service of the Lord in the Temple of God. He served Eli who was a Jewish priest at Shiloh and a judge in Israel.
This occurred two more times with Samuel and Eli.
God trains us to hear His voice. Jesus said in John 10:27, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;

Remember what I heard? Some will say you can, many will say you can’t but I say you will. You are my man and I am your God. (That’s what I heard in my heart)
2. Read and apply His word. We talked a lot about this point last week so I won’t cover it again. You can watch that session online or on our app.
1. Surround yourself with people who will give you Godly counsel even when you don’t want to hear it.
When we become willing to adjust our lives for the one we love the most [God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit] we will always win the race.
Who do you love the most?

· What are you currently doing to calibrate your heart to God’s heart?
· What can you do this week to align your dating plans with God’s plans?
· What would you be willing to do to align your finances in a way that would honor God?
· What adjustments do you need to make for the one you love the most?
We all want to run our race well and win. If you are a Christ-follower, I believe you desire to honor God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and with all of your strength.
For the Christ-follower, running your race will require a willingness to make adjustments for the ONE we love the most.
Are you ready to run?
