Sent Church
Uphill Habits - Week 1: Spirit Detox
We may have “uphill hopes” but we are often caught in “downhill habits.” We need to understand that we form habits, and then our habits form us. Real change is hard to come by, so it’s important for us to create good habits that will help facilitate change in our lives. Good habits are uphill because while they are doable, they require intentionality, effort, and work. In order to develop good habits, we must first have hope for the future and then repent – change direction - from our old, unhealthy habits. We can form uphill habits by fixing our attention on God, getting rid of our excuses and turning “when” into “now.” Join us for 5 weeks of Uphill Habits at Sent Church. You’ll be glad you did!

Week 1: Spirit Detox
Dwight Nash
January 7, 2018

Starve It

• Doubt. I will trust what God says.

• Negativity. I will think what God thinks.

• Sin. I will turn to what God wants.

Feed It

• God’s Word. I will __________________________.

• Worship. I will __________________________.

• Prayer. I will __________________________.
Small Group Questions

• Proverbs 3:5 says to “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Discuss how we can consistently apply this verse in our everyday lives.

• This week, we were called to starve our spirit of doubt, negativity and sin. What steps will you need to take to make that happen in your life?

• Identify the ways that you want to feed your spirit and write them down. Put this list on a mirror or in a place that you will see it every day so that you can remember to spend this week detoxing your spirit. Spend time in God’s Word, worship and pray every day this week.
Family Resources & Connections - Ideas to encourage your family @Home Faith Talks.

It's our prayer this helps you, as couples and families, to pray, study the Word, grow, and serve... together.

• Share with each other one thing that stood out to you in Pastor Dwight's sermon.

• Read Ephesians 4:29 (NLT). "Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them."Family/couple challenge: memorize this verse together this week. Think before you speak: "Is this helpful? Is this good? Will this encourage others?"

• ?Pray together: Ask God to help each of you to starve the things that keep you from Him and to feed the things that draw you closer to Him. Thank God for giving you peace as you trust in Him.
