Christmas time, is a season filled with wonder and joy. It’s a time when people seem to be more generous, kind and forgiving. Even with all the commercialism of Christmas, you can still find Christ in the sights and sounds of the season. While sitting in Starbucks working on my notes, I hear songs about peace and joy, wise men and shepherds, angels and Mary and even songs about The Child.

That’s who I want to focus on today. I want to focus on Jesus.

700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ a prophet by the name of Isaiah wrote,
The story of Christmas is filled with miracles and the greatest miracle of all is The Child.
The story of Christmas isn’t about Mary and Joseph, the shepherds or the wise men. It’s not about the appearance of angels or a star in the sky. It’s not even about gold, frankincense and myrrh. The story of Christmas is His-story. The entire focus of the Christmas story is the Child who was born and the Son who was given..
Isaiah’s words about the Son of God are peculiar at first glance. He writes:
1. For a child will be born to us. The word child refers to the humanity of Christ.
2. A son is given to us. The word son refers to the eternal nature of Christ.

Hypostatic Union: It is the union of the two natures (Divine and Human) in the person of Jesus.
This child would not be like any child before Him. This child would be divine and human. The apostle John informs us about the Deity of Christ.
John reveals that Jesus (The Word) is eternal and that Jesus was with God and Jesus was God.
This is where Christianity parts from every other belief system known to man. Other worldviews and religions believe and claim different things about Jesus.

· Buddhism teaches that Jesus was not God but an enlightened man like Buddha.
· Hinduism teaches that Jesus is an incarnation of god, like Krishna.
· Islam teaches that Jesus was a man and a prophet but was inferior to Muhammad.
· Jehovah’s Witnesses say that Jesus was merely the archangel Michael, a created being that became a man.
· Mormonism teaches that Jesus was only a man who became one of many gods, and that he was a polygamist and a half-brother of Lucifer.
· New Age guru Deepak Chopra says Jesus is a state of consciousness we can all aspire to.
· Scientology teaches that Jesus was an implant forced on Thetan about a million years ago.
The message is not only Christ’s Deity but also His Humanity. John says, “The Word became flesh or human”.

Why would the eternal creator of everything come to earth as a baby?

God became one of us in order to save all of us.
He came to show us three things:

1. He came to show us the Father.

In John 14, Jesus is talking with the disciples about eternity and the place where He is going. He says,
Acts of the Apostles 10:37-38 NLT

2. He came to show us the Light
· Light comes from God (Genesis 1:3)
· God is light (Psalm 27:1)
· God’s Word enlightens our path (Psalm 119:105)
· God can turn darkness into light (Isaiah 42:16)
· Christians are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14)
· Jesus is the Light of the World (John 8:12)
· Light shines in the hearts of Christians (2 Corinthians 4:6)
· Christians are children of light (Ephesians 5:8)

“It’s amazing what a little light will do.”
3. To show us the way back to God
God gave His Son to us so we could be with Him for eternity.
God became one of us in order to save all of us.
Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given…
Jesus became one of us in order to save all of us.
