Title: A Life Built for Others
Scripture: Jeremiah 29:1-14
Speaker: Bill Gorman, BillG@ChristCommunityKC.org

“The essential meaning of exile is that we are where we don’t want to be. We are separated from home…. The place of exile may boast a higher standard of living. It may be more pleasant in its weather. That doesn’t matter. It isn’t home.” —Peterson, Run With The Horses
>> We can’t just survive in exile. We must thrive in exile.
>> Face the brutal facts.
>> Make this place your home.
>> Radiate hope.

>> Face the brutal facts
-What facts are you hesitant to face?
>> Make this place your home
-How do we make this place home?

Text: Jeremiah 29:1-14
Title: A Life Built for Others

ICEBREAKER: When you travel, what do you miss most home?

TAKEAWAY: In what ways did this sermon challenge or reshape what you think about our city and how we ought to engage it?

SCRIPTURE: Read Jeremiah 29:4-14. What do you find surprising about the words God gives to Jeremiah?

ASSESSMENT: Bill said that the first step to thriving in exile was to “face the brutal facts.” Talk about his application question from that section of the sermon. What “facts” in your life are you finding hard to face? How might this be hindering your discipleship?

VOCATION: The words of Jeremiah call us to seek the common good of the city. How do you see your vocation contributing to the common good of our community, city, and world?

PRAYER: Pray together for our city, our home, as we look toward the hope of our future home.
