Miller "Car"nival
It’s hard to believe that it’s August already and that schools will be starting over the next few weeks! This year looks a little different but ECC is still committed to partnering with Miller School to encourage students and their families. We are taking donations to help with school related expenses for families whether that be shoes, supplies, clothing, masks or similar items. Please make your check payable to ECC with Miller School in the memo portion.

On Tuesday, August 18, we are helping sponsor a “Car”nival at Miller from 5:30 to 6:30 to welcome all the students back whether they are doing e-learning or attending classes at the school. Families will drive through a predetermined route at the school and we will have entertainment for them as they remain in their vehicles. We are still working on exactly what that will look like but we know we will need volunteers to help with food prep and meal distribution and to help with some games the families will engage in while remaining in their car. We will be following all health guidelines to keep everyone safe. If you are available to help in any way please sign up at
Connection Challenge
For a while now, we have been extending "challenges" to our kids that have
helped them connect to the message and to each other. Today we offer a challenge for all of us! We encourage you to think of at least 2 people from ECC (not in the same family!) that you haven't connected with lately and give them a call! Check in on them, tell them you miss seeing them, and see how they are doing. We look forward to hearing how these connections encourage you!
Miller Backpack Program
This school year we will once again be packing 100 bags of food for Miller families that need a little extra help. This will take place after the school day is over. We need volunteers from 4-6 PM on Thursdays. We will pack at Miller School using all needed precautions to keep everyone healthy. Please sign up below or email Ronda at with any questions you may have.

MOPs Open House
The MOPS and MOMSNext group at ECC will host an open house on Tuesday, August 25, from 9:30-11:00, outside in the ECC parking lot and driveway. Expectant mothers and mothers of children of all ages are invited to come meet the MOPS team, learn more about how we’ll host our meetings during the year, and consider participating in our ministry. We know this fall is unlike any other season, so we’re working on ways to gather safely with other moms in the midst of a pandemic. MOPS and MOMSNext is open to any mom in the community, so we encourage you to invite neighbors and friends who might be looking for a place to connect! If you have a yard sign, or would like to pick one up from the ECC office, we invite you to place those in your yard as an invitation to our community. This year our theme is “Decide to Rise,” and we’ll be focusing on Being strong, Doing your work, and Chasing joy. Join us as we embrace motherhood as a catalyst to God’s plans and promises for our lives! More information is available at:

The Kingdom Takes Shape: Transformation in an Unexpected Way
August 16, 2020
Eleventh Sunday After Pentecost
Kristin Devine Mueller, Director of Children's Ministry
Write this week's Good News Statement below:
Questions to ponder:
In our passage, Paul's goal and purpose was to get to Rome, to encourage the church and spread the gospel. What purpose has God called you to in this season? Are you called to serve in some way? Is there a place you are called to grow? Is there a person you are called to forgive?
Question to ponder:
Paul was not killed or poisoned by the snake that bit him.
How has God protected you as you've moved toward your God-given purpose in this life?
Question to ponder:
Acts 28:9-10 When this had happened, the rest of the sick on the island came and were cured. They honored us in many ways; and when we were ready to sail, they furnished us with the supplies we needed.
How has God provided for your needs as you've moved toward your God-given purpose in this life?
Questions to ponder:
God often doesn't move us toward our purpose in the way that we would expect. Nothing seems to be as we expected it in life right now. What are you grieving in the unexpected? What are you celebrating in the unexpected? How has God revealed his sovereignty to you in this season?
A practice to engage.
Write one way that you commit to move toward Christoformity in this next season. Discipleship and transformation into people who are like Christ is largely going to happen with you, in your home. How can you embrace God's invitation into a transformed life and actively participate in your own transformation?

Prayer for Forgiveness and a Kingdom Life
God, this day, I desire your forgiveness and mercy; I need your grace and peace to reign in my life and relationships. I confess my sin and selfishness to you. I confess that I cannot do this on my own, and I ask that you grant me your grace and peace, and that you teach me how to live as you lived. I choose daily to surrender myself to you, though I know I will not do so perfectly. I choose daily to rely on your grace to forgive me, to heal me, and to transform me. In Christ’ name, Amen.

The Prayer of St. Francis
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I might not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive, it is in pardoning that we are pardoned, and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
Questions to ponder.
Read 1 Corinthians 9.19-23. In what ways do you see Paul's words here as informing how we see him live his life in Acts 27? How might Paul's words here inform your life and way in the world--especially as we consider the anxious and divided times in which we live?
Prayer for the Eleventh Sunday after Pentecost
Almighty God, you have given your only Son to be for us a sacrifice for sin, and also an example of godly life: Give us grace to receive thankfully the fruits of his redeeming work, and to follow daily in the blessed steps of his most holy life; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
