I mentioned yesterday that one of the reasons that the Bible calls us to give is because we are to value others’ interests above our own. The greatest example of this kind of life is of course Jesus Christ himself.
Our passage tells us today that because of the grace (the generous gift) of Jesus Christ, we’ve been blessed. Jesus was rich in heaven in that He had everything He ever needed. And yet, He was willing to become poor by becoming a baby born in a manger. And by His becoming poor (coming to earth and dying on the cross), we get to become rich in His love and will get to spend eternity with Him.
As Christians, which just means “little Christs,” we want to do the same for other people. By sacrificing and being generous with what we have, we want others to become rich in His love and to spend eternity with Him too!
