As followers of Christ, we’re called to live like him and to value others above ourselves. This is easier said than done. It’s an easy principle to understand, but in practice I find it’s always easier to put myself first.
And yet, this is a driving force not only behind how we treat each other but in why we would give generously to something like Harvest. There are over 50,000 people in Blaine who do not know Jesus Christ. That number swells quickly to 100,000 if we throw in a surrounding city or two.
And so why would we sacrifice what we have for others? Because we want, above all, for others to know the amazing love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ that we know! And so, we give, because as Paul says, we want to look not only to our own interests but to the interests of others. And even if people don’t know it yet, the greatest interest they have is to know Jesus Christ!
