Does it line up with the Bible?
Will it make me more like Christ?
Difference between Christianity and other religions - We don’t worship an exterior God, we have God in us.
Tune out things that oppose God
Take steps toward what God has spoken
For further discussion:
This week Pastor Mike concluded the Uncharted Series focused on discovering and following God’s will throughout your life. Today, we want to answer the question, “How do you know if what you hear or perceive is from God?” To know if we are hearing from God, we have to be able to recognize His voice. Fortunately, God gave us His Word, which is a concrete example of His voice. God’s voice will never disagree with His Word, so when we are wondering if God really spoke to us, we can ask ourselves, “Does it line up with the Bible?” If our answer is yes, then we can ask ourselves, “Will it make me more like Christ?” God wants to transform us so that we are more like Jesus, and He will not lead us away from that goal. Lastly, God is not trying to confuse us. When God speaks to us He will provide confirmation through our godly counsel, His Word, and a sense of peace from the Holy Spirit.
1. Pastor Mike talked about the importance of having godly counsel in our lives that can speak into our lives in time of need. Do you know someone mature in their faith that you can speak to? If not, spend this week praying for God to show you someone you can find godly counsel in.
2. Share your experience hearing from the Lord. How did you confirm that it was God’s voice and not your own thoughts? Give you group some of the practical tips that helps you in that time.
3. Pastor Mike discussed the importance of tuning in to God every day and tuning out the things that oppose God. What are you doing to take steps towards God this week?
Prayer Focus: This week, pray using 2 Corinthians 10:5 “We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” As you go throughout your week in your prayer life, challenge yourself to take every thought and spoken word and make them obedient to God’s Word.
