Title: You Do You
Scripture: Genesis 3:1-7
Speaker: Nathan Miller,

"In a world where the selfie has become our dominant art form, ...phrases like “You do you” and its tribe provide a philosophical scaffolding for our ever-evolving, ever more complicated narcissism. It continues: Instead of serving the establishment (God, religion, social norms), [You do you] empowers the individual. Regardless of how shallow that individual is."
- How ‘You Do You’ Perfectly Captures our Narcissistic Culture.
>> Every choice is a battlefield
>> Every temptation begins so subtly
"The essence of the Serpent's message is that God is limiting Eve, restricting her from her full humanity. Today we hear this philosophy everywhere: Be liberated! Be free! Self-actualize! Unleash your inner potential! … Whenever you hear this, have no doubt that what you hear is the hiss of the Serpent, the temptation to become something apart from what you were created to be." - Bruce Waltke
>> Every sin ruins everything
>> How do we go back to the Garden?
1.Show me the cost of my sin
2. Show me the cost of my sin
3. Father, cover me with your love.

Title: You Do You

Genesis 3:1-7: Read Genesis 3:1-7. What stands out to you from this passage or from the sermon?

“Every Choice is a Battlefield”- Nathan says that every choice we make forms us either more or less into the image of God. Do you agree or disagree with this? Why?

“Every temptation begins so subtly”- Temptation: discuss the 3 steps. What stands out to you? Which is the hardest for you?
Step 1 - doubting what God says
Step 2 - doubting God’s love
Step 3 - doubting our freedom

“Every sin ruins everything”- Read James 1:14-15
What from this passage and our passage in Genesis 3 is the result of sin? What are ways you see “every sin ruining everything?” In our passage?
In our world? Or in your own life?

Shame and Clothes- Read Genesis 3:21 Despite our sin and shame - God clothes us. Is there a story you can remember and are willing to share where you were caught in sin and shame - and then through repentance - experienced God’s covering and giving of clothes (God’s mercy, grace, and forgiveness)?

Application: Prayers:
1. Show me the cost of my sin
2. Remind me what I really want
3. Cover me with your love

Would you be willing to write this on a note care - or make this your screen-saver and practice praying this when temptation occurs?

If willing, try praying these prayers this week and next week talk as a group about how this was helpful.
