God Summons Us

Call to Worship
Leader: Many are the sorrows of the wicked,
All: but steadfast love surrounds the one who trusts in the LORD.

Leader: Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, O righteous,
All: and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!

Meditation: “Heirs to the Grace of Life”
God Sanctifies Us
Call to Confession
From Psalm 32
1 Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. 5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity;6 I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”

Silent Confession
Unison Confession

Merciful God; we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart and mind and strength. We have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us amend what we are, and direct what we shall be, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.

Assurance of Pardon: And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Blessed is the one whose sin is covered
Hymn of Reflection
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
O what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchased of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood

This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Savior all the day long

Perfect submission, all is at rest
I in my Savior am happy and blessed
Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love

Perfect submission, perfect delight,
visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
angels descending, bring from above
echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise him all creatures here below
Praise him above ye heavenly hosts
Praise father, son, and holy ghost

God Strengthens Us
Westminster Shorter Catechism, Questions 91, 96 and 97
Leader: Q 91: How do the sacraments become effectual means of salvation?

All: A. The sacraments become effectual means of salvation, not from any virtue in them, or in him that doth administer them; but only by the blessing of Christ, and the working of His Spirit in them that by faith receive them.

Leader: Q 96. What is the Lord’s Supper?

All: A. The Lord’s Supper is a sacrament, wherein, by giving and receiving bread and wine, according to Christ’s appointment, His death is showed forth; and the worthy receivers are, not after a corporal and carnal manner, but by faith, made partakers of His body and blood, with all His benefits, to their spiritual nourishment, and growth in grace.

Leader: Q 97. What is required for the worthy receiving of the Lord’s Supper?

All: A. It is required of them that would worthily partake of the Lord’s Supper, that they examine themselves of their knowledge to discern the Lord’s body, of their faith to feed upon Him, of their repentance, love, and new obedience; lest, coming unworthily, they eat and drink judgment to themselves.

Text of Institution; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
Leader: 23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, 24and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said,

All: “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Leader: 25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying,

All: “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

God Sends Us
Benedictory Psalm:

Leader: 1For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
All: 2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

Leader: 5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.
All: 6 He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

Leader: 7 On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.
All: 8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah

Leader: 9 Those of low estate are but a breath;
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
All: If riches increase, set not your heart on them.

Leader: 11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
All: 12 And that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.

Adapted from Psalm 62
