Chestnut Ridge Church
As Christians, one of the most powerful and underutilized resources we have is prayer. The New Testament writer James wrote, "You have not because you ask not." God invites us to talk with him about everything we face in life! He is a Father who loves to give good things to his children. But often, we are like the disciples of Jesus, who said to him, "Teach us to pray." We don't know how to pray or what we should pray about. This message series is titled, Ask. Let's explore together how amazing prayer is and how we can grow more effective in prayer.

Ask - Part 4 [September 10, 2017] Tim Haring

Sometimes there are hindrances to prayer
Stop, drop and pray
Ask - week 1
God allows things to come our way so that we will turn to him and pray.

Ask - week 2
If Jesus prayed, how much more do we?

Ask - week 3
Prayer doesn't work; God works when we pray
Some reasons why we may not receive requests:
• God has another plan
• The timing is not right
• God wants to stretch our faith
• There's a spiritual battle going on
Two main situations where things we are doing may hinder our prayers:

1. When we mistreat others

Two main situations where things we are doing may hinder our prayers:

1. When we mistreat others
2. When we give ourselves to various sins
Pastor Chuck Swindoll's prayer:
Dear God,
So far today I’ve done all right. I haven’t gossiped, I haven’t lost my temper, I haven’t been greedy, grumpy, nasty, selfish or over-indulgent. I’m very thankful for that. But in a few minutes, God, I’m going to get out of bed, and from then on, I’m probably going to need a lot of help. Amen
