Conversation Starters

Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our Monday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors. Please know that these questions are meant to be a resource to you. You do not have to follow them verbatim or get through them all. We trust you to know your group and to ask the questions based on your group needs.

1) What stood out to you from the sermon?

2) What do you think is the significance of Lazarus, a man of poverty, being the only person in Jesus’ parables given a name?

3) Why do you think it’s so easy to go about our lives without actually engaging the poor in our society?

4) In what ways have you seen our Downtown Campus care for the poor? How are you supporting this work personally in the giving of your time/talent/treasure?

5) Practice: Partake in communion together. Remember the glorious generosity of our God in our poverty due to sin. Consider how we are all beggars looking for bread in Christ.

6) Suggestion: Organize a group movie night to watch Just Mercy.

Prayer Requests

As a staff it is a privilege to pray for our congregation. Social distance does not change that! If you are in need of prayer click the link to fill out an online prayer request.

Speaker: Henry Thompson, HenryT@ChristCommunityKC.org
>> Jesus calls us to care for the economically poor and marginalized
>> Jesus is seeking to teach us that:
1. God helps those economically in poverty.
2. God judges those who ignore the poor.
3. God’s word should be enough for us to help the poor.
>> Jesus calls us to care for the economically poor and marginalized
