SERMON NOTES: "The Mirror"
There is no transformation without perspiration.
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2.10 (ESV)
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 1.22-25 (ESV)
The big difference between a student and a disciple – the first is satisfied with information, the latter thirsts for transformation.
Don’t read what James wrote as something designed to shame you or diminish you, but as a reminder that you have what you need, and more, for all God has set before you.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4.7 (ESV)
Whoever catches a glimpse of the revealed counsel of God — the free life! — even out of the corner of his eye, and sticks with it, is no distracted scatterbrain but a man or woman of action. That person will find delight and affirmation in the action. James 1.25 (MSG)
"Not everyone who calls out to me, 'Lord! Lord!' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. . . "Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” Matthew 7.21, 24 (NLT)
"If you love me, you will obey what I command." John 14.15 (NIV)
What is the one thing God is asking of you today? How will you respond?
