Invite your friends who work Sundays, who cannot come to a morning service, or who are looking for something with a younger style of worship, but with the same friendly and supporting body of believers. We are expecting to see many new additions to the TFC family through this ministry, and we long to see more success in our mission of "Reaching and Embracing Area Families".

This Weekend's Message: "How (and Whom!) I Worship!" Pt. 5

John 4:1-26

I. The first thing we learn is that worship has to do with real life; worship is not some mythical “break” from a week of reality!

II. Jesus is saying to this woman that the amazing thing is not just that He could give her water without a bucket, but that the water He gives takes away thirst forever and, even better than that, will turn her into a spring that brings eternal life to herself and others!

Proverbs 13:14

III. It’s the Presence of God’s Spirit in our lives that takes away our frustrated soul-thirst forever, and turns us into people who overflow with life for others, instead of sucking the life out of other people, like sandy soil!

John 7:37-39

IV. The work of the Spirit of Christ is to make the word of Christ clear and satisfying to the soul!

V. Concealed sin keeps us from seeing the light of Christ! Sin is like spiritual leprosy; it deadens your senses, so you rip your soul to shreds and don’t even feel it!

VI. How and whom you worship are vastly more important than where you worship!

VII. Worship is first and foremost an experience of the heart; prayer without heart is vain; songs without heart are vain; confession, and creeds, and liturgies, and even sermons that don’t come from the heart are empty and worthless in God’s eyes!

John 4:23

IIX. Those two words, spirit and truth, correspond to the how and the whom of worship; worshiping in spirit is the opposite of worshiping in mere external ways! It’s the opposite of formalism and traditionalism. Together, the words “spirit and truth” mean that real worship comes from the spirit within, and is based on true views of God!

IX. Truth without emotion produces dead orthodoxy, and a church full of unspiritual fighters; emotion without truth produces empty frenzy, and cultivates flaky people who reject the discipline of rigorous thought.

John 3:5-6

X. The fuel of worship is the grand truth of a gracious and sovereign God; the fire that makes the fuel burn white hot is the quickening of the Holy Spirit; the furnace made alive and warm by the flame of truth is our renewed spirit; and the resulting heat of our affections is worship, pushing its way out in tears, confessions, prayers, praises, acclamations, lifting of hands, bowing low, and obedient lives!
