CONVERSATION STARTERS

Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our Monday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors. Please know that these questions are meant to be a resource to you. You do not have to follow them verbatim or get through them all. We trust you to know your group and to ask the questions based on your group needs.

1) What stood out to you from the sermon?

2) Do you tend to identify more with the rebellious younger brother or religious older brother? Why do you think that is? What about when you were younger?

3) Read Luke 15:20. The father ran toward his son with compassion and embraced him. Do you tend to view God as eager to forgive and embrace you? Why or why not?

4) The Pharisees and scribes hearing this parable would have seen themselves in the religious older brother. Why do you think Jesus does not tell them the response of the older brother to the father’s entreaties?
