CONVERSATION STARTERS
Conversation Starters help us dig deeper, connecting Sunday’s sermons with our Monday lives. These prompts have been designed to help Community Groups grow in their relationship with God, with one another, and with their neighbors. Please know that these questions are meant to be a resource to you. You do not have to follow them verbatim or get through them all. We trust you to know your group and to ask the questions based on your group needs.

1) What stood out to you from the sermon?

2) The master in this surprising parable commends the squandering manager for his shrewdness; however, Jesus goes on to admonish the “sons of light” for not demonstrating surpassing shrewdness (v. 8). Compare verse 4 with verse 9 and note the different motives for the shrewd stewardship of money between the “sons of this world” and the “sons of light.” (See also Luke 12:31-34).

3) Think of examples from the life of Jesus where he demonstrated amazing shrewdness.

4) In the parable, the sense of desperation and urgency push the manager to think innovatively about his situation, knowing there is limited time to act. Do we have that same sense of urgency since we, too, are accountable for our God-given stewardship?

5) Are there instances where you’ve seen shrewd solutions to urgent problems during this pandemic?

6) How can the church be on the forefront of shrewd action during these difficult days?

7) What are you being called to leverage with the kingdom of God in mind?

Sing To The King

Verse 1
Sing to the King Who is coming to reign
Glory to Jesus the Lamb that was slain
Life and salvation His empire shall bring
And joy to the nations when Jesus is King

Chorus
Come let us sing a song
A song declaring that we belong to Jesus
He is all we need
Lift up a heart of praise
Sing now with voices raised to Jesus
Sing to the King

Verse 2
For His returning we watch and we pray
We will be ready the dawn of that day
We'll join in singing with all the redeemed
'Cause Satan is vanquished and Jesus is King

In Christ Alone

Verse 1
In Christ alone my hope is found
He is my light my strength my song
This Cornerstone this solid Ground
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love what depths of peace
When fears are stilled when strivings cease
My Comforter my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

Verse 2
In Christ alone who took on flesh
Fullness of God in helpless babe
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones He came to save
Till on that cross as Jesus died
The wrath of God was satisfied
For every sin on Him was laid
Here in the death of Christ I live

Verse 3
There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

Verse 4
No guilt in life no fear in death
This is the power of Christ in me
From life's first cry to final breath
Jesus commands my destiny
No power of hell no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand

I Give Myself Away

Chorus
I give myself away I give myself away
So You can use me

Verse 1
Here I am Here I stand
Lord my life is in Your hands
Lord I'm longing to see
Your desires revealed in me

Verse 2
Take my heart Take my life
As a living sacrifice
All my dreams All my plans
Lord I place them in Your hands

Bridge
My life is not my own To You I belong
I give myself I give myself to You

Chorus
I give myself away I give myself away
So You can use me

Title: The Shrewd Manager
Scripture: Luke 16:1-9
Speaker: Dawn Heckert, DawnH@ChristCommunityKC.org
"Shrewdness- understanding how things work, then leveraging that knowledge to apply the right force in the right place at the right time.
Innocence- freedom from the guilt of any kind." - Rick Lawrence, Shrewd

>> Four Strategic Kingdom Levers We should Use:
- Lever of Urgency
- Lever of Work
- Lever of Forgiveness
- Lever of Generosity
"It fueled my expectancy for God to create opportunities for our family to be generous and care for our neighbors, especially those who are going through difficult and challenging times. In fact, one of those neighbors recently dropped off a bottle of Clorox Wipes (gold basically) at our house because she knew I was trying to buy them everywhere. The woman told me she prays for our family often and is grateful for our presence on the block. I was deeply humbled by her kind words. This is someone I hardly know at all, and I haven’t invested as much as I should in her family, and she is reaching out to encourage me!" - Amy Wilson
