Elijah
1 Kings 17-18

What do we learn?
In the will of God there is remarkable power and peace!

A divided heart is as wrong as open idolatry.

1 Kings 18:21
“And Elijah came near to all the people and said, ‘How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.’ And the people did not answer him a word.”

A True Picture of Idolatry

Idolatry begins with a heart that forgets or forsakes God!

Deuteronomy 8:19
“And if you forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, I solemnly warn you today that you shall surely perish.”

Jeremiah 18:15
“But my people have forgotten me; they make offerings to false gods; they made them stumble in their ways, in the ancient roads, and to walk into side roads, not the highway.”
Idolatry is not compatible with the worship of God!

Joshua 24:23
“He said, ‘Then put away the foreign gods that are among you, and incline your heart to the Lord, the God of Israel.’ ”

2 Corinthians 6:16
“What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, ‘I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.’ ”
Idolatry is a product of the sinful nature!

Galatians 5:19-20
“Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions…”
Idolatry is setting up something as God that is really no God at all!

Isaiah 45:20
“Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, you survivors of the nations! They have no knowledge who carry about their wooden idols, and keep on praying to a god that cannot save.”

Our most effective tool is the prayer of faith.

One truly dedicated life can change the world.

What should we do?

Since God has no rivals we should…
- Accept no substitutes.
- Pray more than ever.
- Devote ourselves wholly to God!

Matthew 22:37
“And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ ”
