Chestnut Ridge Church
Wise Guy - Part 2
Through God, Solomon wrote the Old Testament book of Proverbs so we could grow in understanding and wisdom, and so we would know what to do and how to respond to various situations in life. The starting point of wisdom is what Solomon calls, "the fear of the Lord."

Fear of the Lord: to recognize God’s character and respond by revering, trusting, worshiping, obeying, and serving Him.[1] - Buzzell

The picture, which emerges from the biblical material, is quite simple: folly is the opposite of wisdom, and a fool is the opposite of a wise person.[1]

[They are] those who lack wisdom and understanding, especially in relation to God.[1]

The fool is not so much stupid (except when the context demands such a meaning) as immoral and pernicious.[1]
