Text: James 1:19-27
Title: Anger and Mercy

LOOKING IN: On Sunday, Mike insisted that anger is poison. Where have you seen anger’s poisonous effects in your life?
DIGGING DEEPER: Anger is usually a secondary emotion to either fear or sadness. With that in mind, do you have any ideas about what emotion (fear or sadness) tends to prompt your anger?
SCRIPTURE: Read James 1:19-21. What do you think it looks like to be “slow to anger”?
NEW PERSPECTIVES: Many times, our anger is self-justifying. It makes us feel better about ourselves and causes us to grow increasingly frustrated with others. However, there are instances where anger is justified. Can you think of places where it is good for you to be angry? Where might anger lead you to positive action?
LIVING IT OUT: Read James 1:26-27. What would it look like for you to embrace the kind of “pure” religion that James talks about? How can you say “no” to anger, and yes to this kind of living?
PRAYER: List specific areas where you would like prayer for in turning your anger into pure religion. Pray for these areas together.
