THE HEART OF THE PROBLEM

Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV)
Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

1 Samuel 16:7 (NKJV)
7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have [a]refused him. Forthe Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Jeremiah 17:9-10 (NKJV)
9 “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; who can know it? 10 I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

Proverbs 4:23 (NKJV)
Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.

Matthew 6:21 (NKJV)
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 12:34b (NKJV)
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

Matthew 15:18 (NKJV)
“But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.

Matthew 5:27-28 (NKJV)
27“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28“But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Matthew 23:25-28 (NLT)
25 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence! 26 You blind Pharisee! First, wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too. 27 “What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs—beautiful on the outside but filled on the inside with dead people’s bones and all sorts of impurity. 28 Outwardly you look like righteous people, but inwardly your hearts are filled with hypocrisy and lawlessness.

GOD’S HEART SURGERY

1. THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

Galatians 5:16-26 (NKJV)
16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies,
21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Romans 8:14 (NKJV)
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Matthew 7:16 (NKJV)
You will know them by their fruits.

2. THE WORD OF GOD.

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Isaiah 40:8 (NKJV)
The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.

John 17:17 (NKJV)
“… Your word is truth.”

Psalm 119:11 (NKJV)
Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You!

3. THE TRIALS OF LIFE.

James 1:2-4 (NKJV)
2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Psalm. 119:67, 71
67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, But now I keep Your word.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I may learn Your statutes.

4. THE MINISTRY OF OTHERS.

Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV)
As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

Galatians 6:1-3 (NLT)
1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. 2 Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ
