1. Icebreaker: Did you play team sports growing up? If so, which one was your favorite sport to play? What is the best team you played on? What’s the best sports team you have ever watched play together? What made them a great team?
2. What insight, principle, or observation from Sunday’s sermon/message did you find to be most helpful, eye opening, or troubling?
3. Read Ephesians 5:1-2 and then Philippians 2:3-4. How do these verses speak to the value of being a “team-player” rather than being individually focused?
4. Read Ephesians 5:8-11. Contrast living as people in the light vs. people living in darkness. What does it say to do and not do regarding the “unfruitful works of darkness”?
5. Read Ephesians 5:15-20. According 5:15-17, how does the Apostle Paul say we are to live our lives? In your life, how can you make the “best use of the time”?
6. Ephesians 5:18 says not to get drunk or intoxicated with wine but commands us to be “filled with the Spirit.” Why do you think the Apostle Paul contrasts being drunk with being Spirit-filled? In most churches today, what’s worse, not being filled with the Spirit or being drunk? Why?
7. Ephesians 5:19-20 ties being Spirit-filled to singing praises to God (making melody to the Lord with your heart) and thanksgiving (having a grateful heart). Which one happens more often in your life? Why?
8. Pastor Paul’s last point in his message stated a truth that the Apostle Paul reinforced in Ephesians 5:21: “Christians together – Submit to each other.” What does it mean for Christians to “submit to one another”? What are some practical ways we can live this out?
9.How can our group pray for you this week?
