UP: Abiding with the Father
Jesus promises that if we abide UP with the Father, we will bear fruit. When we stay closely connected to the Father, our relationship with Him reshapes our identity, how we see the world, and how we understand our purpose.

Worship in Prayer

Let’s join together as the church to declare our gratitude and lift our requests to God as we surrender together to His will for us. Praying together is not limited to our gatherings on Sundays, we can pray together daily as the church! As you pray through these 6 areas, use this prayer guide to help your daily prayer focus all week long

Give thanks and pray:
- for your family
- for your church family, friends, and neighbours
- for our pastors, staff and church leaders
- for healthcare and front line workers
- for Our City and government
- for our EMCC denomination and our Mission Partners

Worship Through Giving

Giving back to God is a regular expression of worship, gratitude and praise.  See our giving options. Offering Prayer: God thank you for everything that you have provided to us. We give back to you as an expression of worship, gratitude, and praise for who you are. You are a good good father. Thank you that through this challenging time, we are assured that we do not need to worry, but trust that you will provide for our needs. Help us to be generous with what you have given, and lead us into opportunities to bless and serve others with the resources you have given to us. In Jesus' name. Amen

Pastor Rob Ford - UP: Abiding with the Father
What do you find most fascinating about Jesus’ life?
Jesus lived His life focused on 3 great loves:
· Up with the Father.
· In with his disciples.
· Out with the world.
These three create the shape of Jesus’ life.
We can see Him focus on all three of these in Luke 6:12-19.
Dallas Willard said a Disciple is someone who lives as though Jesus were living His life through them, with their job, their family, surrounded by their community.
Being a disciple of Jesus doesn’t just mean learning information about Jesus.
Being a disciple means learning from Jesus, how to be like Jesus, and to do the things Jesus did.
What do you see in our culture that tries to shape our lives?
Jesus said that the most important commandment was to ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’.
Matthew 22:34-40, Mark 12:29-31
Your answer to the question, ‘what is most important’ will shape your answer to every other question.
Read John 15:1-17
What is the relationship between the gardener, the vine, and the branches? What is the job of each one?
Read Isaiah 5:1-7 ‘The Song of the Vineyard’
Retell the story of God and His vineyard in your own words.
Check out Jesus’ other ‘I AM’ statements in John’s Gospel:
· I AM the bread of life; John 6:35
· I AM the light of the world; John 8:12
· I AM the door of the sheep; John 10:7, 9
· I AM the resurrection and the life; John 11:25
· I AM the good shepherd; John 10:11, 14
· I AM the way, the truth, and the life; John 14:6
· I AM the true vine; John 15:1
Read Isaiah 6:1-13
‘Isaiah’s Commission’ and God’s promise of the ‘Holy Seed’
When Jesus said that He is the ‘True Vine’, He is claiming that He is now the singular vehicle through which God will create a people for Himself.
Read John 14:6
Jesus connects loving Him and being obedience; John 14:15, 14:21, 14:23, 15:10
It is because Jesus possesses all authority in heaven and on earth that He can ask for our absolute obedience. Read Matthew 28:18-20.
Our love for God must be our number one priority. But when we struggle or fail, we are assured of the grace of God.
3 Suggestions for imitating the shape of Jesus’ life:
1. Dedicate yourself to loving the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
2. Keep learning. Challenge yourself to growing in your ability to handle the word of God this summer.
3. Consider how your respond to God’s word. Commit to a process of repenting (changing your thinking), and believing (putting what you’ve learned into action).
