1. Icebreaker: With Valentines Day upon us, how does that holiday demonstrate what is true love? How does the day NOT demonstrate God’s true love? What’s the funniest Valentines gift you have given or received?
2. What insight, principle, or observation from Sunday’s sermon/message did you find to be most helpful, eye opening, or troubling?
3. Read Ephesians 2:8-10. What in these verses apply to belonging to a local God’s family, like a church? By being God’s “workmanship,” what has God prepared beforehand for you to do?
4. When you think about the word “commitment,” how would you define it? Why is true commitment both in relationships, in general, and to a local church, in particular, so hard to come by?
5. Read Ephesians 2:19-22. What is the church called in Ephesians 2:19, 21-22? Why do you think the Apostle Paul uses that imagery in reference to the church?
6. The church is called the “household of God,” which it means the church is a family. We have family globally known as the “Big C” church (extended family) and family locally known as the “Little C” church (immediate family). How is calling the church “family” comforting and how is it difficult for you?
7. A prominent pastor says, “I can’t claim to be following Christ if I’m not committed to any specific group of disciples.” According the verses above in Ephesians 2, why is it impossible to grow in Christ without fellow Christians?
8. Pastor Paul said that love is the “glue” that holds a church together in community. Read 1 Corinthians 13:4-6. Christ is love and resides in each believer. How can you better demonstrate that kind of love toward fellow Christ-followers in your church?
9.How can our group pray for you this week?
