Chestnut Ridge Church
Angels and Demons—Part 7
Many misunderstandings come with the unseen world of angels and demons. While some have trouble believing the devil and his helpers exist, others give Satan too much credit for the difficulties in life. Misconceptions about God’s angelic helpers also abound. We wonder whether we have a guardian angel, or if people receive angel wings when they pass away. There are so many questions—how can we know the right answers? Throughout this series, we’ll take a look at some of the most common misunderstandings of this hidden world. Join us as we explore Angels & Demons—and let’s see what God has to say about it.

Angels and Demons—Part 7

Problem | People don't appreciate the reality of heaven and hell

Today's Takeaway | We only live twice—heaven and hell do exist
• Where should we get our beliefs concerning heaven and hell?
• Where should we get our beliefs concerning heaven and hell?
• Is “heaven” actually in heaven?
• Where should we get our beliefs concerning heaven and hell?
• Is “heaven” actually in heaven?
What will eternity be like for believers?

What will hell be like?
Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible:

The Greek word “Gehenna” is used in a number of N9…” Gehenna is derived by transliteration from the Hebrew of the O10…” a ravine on the south side of Jerusalem. This valley was the center of idolatrous worship in which children were burned by fire as an offering to the heathen god Molech. In the time of [King] Josiah it became a place of abomination, polluted by dead men’s bones and the filth of Jerusalem (and by garbage and rubbish dumped there. A fire burned continuously in this valley. It thus became a symbol of the unending fires of hell where the lost are consumed in torment.

Who will end up in hell?
They are ones whose ways are evil.
They are ones whose names are not in the book of life.
They are ones who don’t know God.
They are ones who didn’t respond to the gospel message.
They are ones who have died in their sin.

• What will eternity be like for believers?
• What will hell be like?
• Who will end up in hell?
What about children or those who haven’t heard?
