Why does Gospel Community Church preach through books of the Bible?
1) It sets us up for a more comprehensive view of the Bible.
2) It creates an environment of spiritual growth through study and conversations.
3) It saves the people from the theological, social, or philosophical tendencies of the pastor or culture.
4) It is a visible act of submission to God’s Word by trusting in its sufficiency.
In 146 BC Corinth was totally destroyed in a war with Rome, all the men are killed and the women and children sold into slavery. Corinth lays in ruins until 44 BC when Julius Caesar founded it as a Roman colony because of its strategic location. Finally in 50 AD, he apostle Paul arrives in Corinth.
Somewhere around 55 AD in Ephesus, the mighty apostle Paul pens this letter to the Corinthians.
Our desire is to be a multicultural and multigenerational church that puts the Gospel on display.
We are studying 1 Corinthians as a case study of what NOT to do as a multicultural, multigenerational church!
Why does Paul write 1 Corinthians?
1) He is writing to answer their questions.
2) He is writing to reform.
3) He is writing to instruct.
Not only did Corinth get its wealth from trade, but it also hosted the Isthmian Games.
The Corinthian people were entrepreneurial, competitive, consumeristic, self-promoting, cutthroat, and they were famous for their sexual immorality.
1) Read 1 Corinthians.
2) Pray for unlikely people to be saved.
3) Believe in the power of the Gospel that says come and die for the cause to a culture that says live for comfort.
