Key Idea: Jesus encourages his believers by helping them understand that it is their role to permeate society as agents of redemption

Question: What do you see as your role in our society today?

1. Salt of the earth

The role of salt was to preserve from decay. Salt was traded as a commodity, it had value. Salt is used as an enhancer.

Our role in the world is to prevent corruption and moral decay. As a Christian it is your role to stand strong in the middle of a fallen world and impact that world.

Romans 8:21 tells us that all of creation is in constant decay. Death is at work but those that follow Jesus BRING LIFE!

The role of being salt begins in our hearts. Being faithful. Revelation 2:10

How does salt lose its saltiness? If we do not remain faithful we lose our impact. We become diluted by the things of this world.

We need to live into our composition of who Christ has made us to be in order to be effective in this world.

Jesus makes a strong statement in Luke 15:35 about those who allow themselves to become ineffective.

You are the salt of the EARTH - your influence should be wide

2. Light of the world

It’s important to understand that Jesus does not say that you “should be” the light of the world. He says “you ARE.”

John 8:12 Jesus said I am the light of the world, if you walk in me, even though you are in darkness, you will live.

Ephesians 5:8 you were all at one time darkness but now you are light in the Lord. So live like children of light.

A disciple of Jesus finds their identity in Christ alone. If Jesus is the light, and we are in the light...we live like Jesus.

YOU ARE LIGHT…meaning we have Christ but we also have a purpose. And the role of light is to drown out the darkness.

We must live into John 1:5 that the light will always shine in the darkness and the darkness will never win! When Jesus said, don’t hide it under a bushel…The question that would be raise would be…why would you? Why would anyone desire to hide a lamp under a basket? It defeats the purpose of the light and it is a waste!

Actions matter. Words matter. 1 Peter 3:25 says that because Christ is Lord over our lives, we should always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that we have.

Our words are only able to be shared if our actions set the stage for them. And our actions are what will point people to an incredible God.

So...

1. Do you live like a light in the world?

2. Do you know Jesus as the light, drowning out the darkness in your own life? Romans 10:9

YOU ARE AN AGENT OF REDEMPTION IN THIS WORLD. LIVE INTO IT. SALT AND LIGHT

To God Be The Glory

To God be the glory great things He has done
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the life gate that all may go in

Praise the Lord praise the Lord
Let the earth hear His voice
Praise the Lord praise the Lord
Let the people rejoice
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son
And give Him the glory great things He has done

O perfect redemption the purchase of blood
To every believer the promise of God
The vilest offender who truly believes
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives

Great things He has taught us
Great things He has done
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
But purer and higher and greater will be
Our wonder our transport when Jesus we see

King Of Glory

Oh don't lose heart oh my soul oh my soul
Don't give up there is hope there is always hope
And there is peace in the storm in the storm
No don't forget He is Lord He is Lord of all

There is a King of glory, there is a God who saves
One who is strong and mighty
Freedom is in His name
Open the gates of heaven, lift up a shout of praise
There is a lion roaring, Jesus the King of glory

So lift your eyes stand in awe stand in awe
There is one only one where my help comes from

Nations bow mountains shake
At the sound of just one name
Over all Jesus reigns

This I Believe (The Creed)

Our Father everlasting, the all creating One
God Almighty
Through Your Holy Spirit, conceiving Christ the Son
Jesus our Savior

I believe in God our Father, I believe in Christ the Son
I believe in the Holy Spirit, Our God is three in One
I believe in the resurrection, That we will rise again
For I believe in the Name of Jesus

Our judge and our defender, Suffered and crucified
Forgiveness is in You, Descended into darkness
You rose in glorious life, Forever seated high

I believe in You
I believe You rose again
I believe that Jesus Christ is Lord

Saved My Soul

You my God have saved my soul
I am Yours forevermore
I won't be moved of this I'm sure
You are my God and You saved my soul

I was lost when You came for me
Held in chains by the enemy
But You broke them in victory
Now I'm free I am free

You’re my joy and You are my hope
I am saved by Your grace alone
I will sing of Your love for me
I am free I am free

Now I stand with the Kings of kings
He has paid for my every sin
And from now through eternity
I am free I am free

What once was dead is now alive
You gave to me the breath of life
You brought me up out from the grave
I'm bursting out with songs of praise

Jesus Paid It All

And I hear the Savior say
Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness watch and pray
Find in Me thine all in all

Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow

Lord now indeed I find
Thy pow'r and Thine alone
Can change the leper's spots
And melt the heart of stone

And when before the throne
I stand in Him complete
Jesus died my soul to save
My lips shall still repeat

Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow
He washed it white as snow
He washed it white as snow

Oh praise the One Who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead
