ONE - Leaving Behind the Right Legacy
1. What do you want others to say when you’re gone?
a. In Christ alone, I place my trust.
b. You will leave a legacy.
c. 3 ways you can be assured that your legacy is a positive one.
2. Legacy of Love
a. Jn.13:34-35 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.
b. What are you passing along to your family & friends?
c. Paul Harvey - When it comes to our children, you spell love: T-I-M-E.
3. 1Cor.13:7-8a It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.
a. Paul is telling us love is no respecter of persons.
b. The word for protect — literally means to shelter or to cover.
c. 1Pet.4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
4. A Legacy of Faith
a. Faith is the greatest thing you can pass on to your children.
b. Prov.22:6 Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
c. Ps.127:1 Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.
5. Only one life will soon be past—only what's done for Christ will last.
a. The way God sums up your life will be the only thing that matters when eternity hangs in the balance.
b. Well done, good and faithful servant! ...Come and share your master's happiness!
c. Your greatest contribution to the kingdom of God many not be something you do, but someone you raise.
d. Prov.22:1 A good name is better than riches, to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.
6. A Legacy of Unity
a. One hope. One truth. One way.
b. Where division and separation exist, Jesus is the answer!
c. The secret to the church standing together is found in their being of one accord.
7. How did they have this single-mindedness?
a. Christ united them and bound them together.
b. Jn.17:20-21a My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one...
8. The church should be a place of unity.
a. To have unity it takes time, effort, involvement and being intentional.
b. Ps.133:1 Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
c. The length of your life is up to God; the legacy of your life is up to you.
