More - Part 1 [October 29/30, 2016] Tim Haring

Problem: We tend to only focus on the here and now.
Solution: There's more to this life than just this life.
There is more to this life than this life.
Faith apprehends as a real fact what is not revealed to the senses. It rests on that fact, acts upon it, and is upheld by it in the face of all that seems to contradict it. Faith is a real seeing.[1] - Vincent

Faith enables us to see what others cannot see. As a result, faith enables us to do what others cannot do![1] - Wiersbe

“The important thing is not what we live in, but what we look for.” These men and women of faith lived in tents, but they knew a heavenly city awaited them.[1] – Wiersbe

There is more to this life than just this life.

Discussion Questions:

1. What are some of the things you like about living in this country? What are some of the things you don’t like?

2. What do you think Pastor Tim was talking about when he said, “There is more to this life than just this life?”

3. Read Hebrews 11:1. How would you define faith? What is the difference between faith and wishful thinking? How does our faith impact how we live our lives?

4. Read Hebrews 11:8-10. Why wasn’t Abraham bothered that he never fully received the land God had promised to give him? How would you interpret verse 10?

5. Read Hebrews 11:13-16 and Philippians 3:18-20. What difference would it make in our lives if we realized we were citizens of heaven and are only “passing through” this world?

6. Do you think most Christians live “in light of eternity?” Explain your answer. In what ways are we, as Christians, too attached to this world? Why do you think we don’t live more for eternity?

7. How might having an eternal mindset impact how we view our time, talents and treasure?

8. How might you apply tonight’s lesson to your life?

Miss a weekend?
