Title: A World Out of Control
Scripture: Daniel 1:1-7
Speaker: Jordan Green,

>> God is not pleased when we try to take control.
“...the crucial threat that the modern world poses to faith does not actually lie in the denial of God’s existence, as much as it lies in the tacit repudiation of divine authority.” - Craig Gay
> See the opportunity
> Stop trying so hard to get control
> Learn from those without control
“Evangelical churches in America can benefit from the testimony of other Christians who have long lived on the cultural margins, from a people group who wielded no political influence or economic superiority—a people who functioned largely as a subset, or minority in the larger American Evangelical story.” - Charlie Dates
Conversation Starters – Leawood Campus

TAKEAWAY: In your own words, what was Jordan hoping to communicate in the sermon this week?
OPENING UP: In what areas of your life or culture does it seem like the world is out of control?
SCRIPTURE: Read Daniel 1:1-3. Despite all that is happening around him, Daniel insists that God is ultimately in control. If that is still true today, how might that truth change how you view and live in the world?
REFLECTING: If God is in control, then we are by definition not in control. How do you feel about that? Do you think you truly believe that, as Jordan suggested, not being in control is a good thing for us?
ASSESSING HABITS: How can you become more excited about the ways God is at work, even in the midst of difficult realities in our lives and in our world?
PRAYER: As you pray together, ask God to grow your trust in the goodness of His control over everything.
