When the Fire Finds You
There are moments in life that catch us off guard and leave us breathless. The diagnosis. The betrayal. The phone call that changes everything. In those moments, the ground feels unsteady, and it’s easy to believe the fire will consume us. But what if the fire isn’t meant to destroy you? What if it’s meant to reveal something sacred inside you that could never surface in comfort?
God never promised we wouldn’t face the fire, but He did promise we wouldn’t face it alone. The heat you feel right now isn’t proof that God has abandoned you. It’s proof that He’s refining you. The fire isn’t punishment; it’s preparation. The very place that feels the most painful might be the place where His presence is most near.
I remember sitting in a hospital room beside my daughter’s bed. Machines hummed softly as I whispered prayers into the quiet. Fear tried to convince me I was alone and the situation was hopeless, but peace had somehow taken the place of panic. Somewhere between the panic, waiting, and tears, I realized the fire can’t take what God has sealed with His presence.
Isaiah’s words became more than a verse; they became a lifeline. “When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.” It doesn’t say if you walk through it. It says when. We will all face fires, but we do not face them without God. His presence sets the boundary on the flames. They may touch what’s around you, but they cannot touch who you are in Him.
The next time you feel the heat rise, pause and remember that you’re not being burned up, you’re being forged. The same God who walks with you in the fire will lead you out refined, stronger, and more radiant than before.
Reflection:
Where do you feel the heat rising in your life right now? What might God be revealing about Himself, and about you, in this season?
Prayer:
God, help me see You in the fire. When everything feels uncertain, remind me that I’m not being destroyed but refined. Teach me to find peace and purpose even here, in the middle of the flames. Amen.
