Every Good and Perfect Gift - a 5-Day Advent Devotional

DAY 4 OF 5

Provision

“I have been young, and now am old,
yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken,
or his children begging for bread.”
Psalm 37:25 ESV

Grace, a vibrant woman in her early thirties, once embraced life with hope and independence. That hope was challenged when a small pituitary tumor triggered a rare immune disorder, leaving her vulnerable and overwhelmed by uncertainty. Yet amidst the hospital visits and long days of recovery, the words of Psalm 37:25 resonated deep within her: “I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread.” This promise became her steadfast anchor, reminding her that God’s provision is constant, even in our most fragile moments.

As Grace navigated this challenging season, tangible acts of love began to weave a tapestry of care around her. Her family visited often, bringing thoughtful reminders of hope—a bouquet of fresh flowers to brighten her room, soft and comfortable pajamas to offer warmth and comfort, and a decorative prayer bowl that stood as a symbol of hope and remembrance of God’s promises. Meanwhile, her co-workers and friends reached out in equally loving ways. They sent delicious, home-cooked meals to nourish her body, devotional workbooks to encourage her spirit, engaging craft activities that transformed moments of isolation into opportunities for joyful creativity, and hand-written words of encouragement and continual prayer.

Each of these gestures affirmed for Grace that God’s care is not limited to miraculous healings alone. His gift of provision unfolds through the compassionate hands and generous hearts of those around us, enriching our lives in every small detail. The Magi came from afar to bring gifts to show love and honor to Jesus and care for Joseph and Mary.

This Advent, may you become part of someone else’s story of provision—offering the presence, kindness, and love of Christ to those in need.

Reflect

How have you recognized God’s provision in the everyday acts of kindness around you? What might you do today to share His love with someone else?

Pray

Heavenly Father, thank You for the countless signs of Your love and care. Open our eyes to see Your blessings in every moment, and help us share that love with others. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

About this Plan

Every Good and Perfect Gift - a 5-Day Advent Devotional

Every good and perfect gift truly comes from above. From His Word that brings life and truth, to the wisdom that guides our steps, to the presence of Christ living within us—God continues to pour out His goodness on His people. His provision meets our every need, and His joy sustains us in every season. Each gift reveals His heart—a Father who delights in giving to His children. Advent reminds us that the greatest gift of all was the moment the Word became flesh, bringing light, life, and hope to the world.
