Light Has Come

DAY 5 OF 12

Unexpected Encounters

The shepherds were having another boring night in the fields. Same sheep, same stars, same routine. They were punching the clock, biding their time, going through the motions. Then suddenly… angels! Blinding light. Heaven breaking into their ordinary routine.

They went from the monotonous to the miraculous in a single moment. From mundane to magnificent. One second they’re simply tending sheep, and the next they’re getting a front-row seat to the greatest announcement in history.

Here’s what’s remarkable: God chose to release the Good News of Jesus’ birth to shepherds first—not to the high priest or religious elite.

In their culture, shepherds were considered unreliable, second-rate, and were looked down on. They were denied from keeping ceremonial law because of their lowly jobs. They were the forgotten ones, the looked-over ones, the last people anyone would expect God to use.

Yet God decided to use them. He knew they would respond with faith. God loves to stop everyday people in the middle of their regular routines and say, “I have something for you.” He did it with Moses at a burning bush. He did it with Paul on the Damascus road. He did it with Isaiah in the temple.

The question isn’t whether God is speaking. He’s always speaking—through Scripture, through His still small voice, through circumstances, and through other people. Isaiah 30:21 says, “Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it.’”

What matters most is your response. Some people doubt what God says, wondering: “Did I really hear Him?” Some debate it, stuck in analysis paralysis: “But what if…” Some deny it: “That’s not for me.”

Yet the shepherds did something different. They believed and they moved.

Have you been experiencing God-moments lately? Those times when you sense God’s presence, when you feel Him nudging you in a certain direction, when something captures your attention in a way you can’t explain? Those moments are invitations. God is saying, “Come with Me. I have something to show you. There’s more for you.”

The shepherds could have stayed in their comfortable fields, but they would have missed the miracle. Don’t let comfort keep you from encountering Christ. God is speaking to you today. Will you listen?

Pray

Lord, tune my ears to hear Your voice. Help me recognize Your leading, even in my ordinary routines. I don’t want to miss what You’re doing because I’m too distracted or comfortable. I’m listening and ready to respond. Amen.
