CHOOSING THE RIGHT FRIENDS

Do you know that those walking closest to you will influence your choices in life? The people closest to you impact even your relationship with God. While we are called to love everyone, we are not called to open our hearts to just anyone. God's Word urges us to walk with the wise and avoid the path of the foolish.

Psalm 1 paints a clear picture of the blessed person, someone who avoids ungodly influence and instead delights in the law of the Lord. This person is like a tree rooted by living water, stable and fruitful. Relationships either water your soul or wither your spirit.

Being a friend of Jesus means choosing friendships that reflect His character. That does not mean abandoning all non-Christian friends; it means being careful about who has access to your heart. If a friend encourages you to compromise your faith, it is time to re-evaluate that connection.

PRACTICAL TIP

List your five closest friends. Do they encourage your spiritual growth or weaken it? Pray for discernment. Ask God to deepen healthy friendships and give you courage to step back from those who draw you away from Him.
