The Send: A Life of Christ-Like ActionNäide

Mark 8:27-38 is the book’s turning point. We’ve seen Jesus’ power on display as he traveled around teaching and performing miracles. From this point forward, we’ll find Jesus on his way to Jerusalem, where he’ll reveal his full power by giving up his life to free people from slavery to sin and death.
Here is the first of three times in chapters eight through ten where we’ll see Jesus tell his disciples that he, as the messiah, has to suffer and be executed before rising again on the third day. Each time, the disciples can’t understand. To them, the idea of God’s promised savior suffering and dying is a contradiction in terms. Peter rightly declares that Jesus is the Messiah, but he is wrong about what that means.

Reflection Questions:
- How is God speaking to me through these verses?
- What does this set of verses teach me about God?
- What does this show me about the good news of Jesus?
- How can I apply what I read today?
