Overcoming Marital AnxietySample

What Is Marital Anxiety?
Marital anxiety is not simply fear; it is a collection of thoughts, assumptions, and expectations about marriage that did not originate from God. These fears are often formed through painful experiences, unhealthy relationships, failed marriages we have observed, broken engagements, emotional and/or domestic abuse, and negative narratives we have absorbed over time.
Many singles carry anxiety without realizing it. You may desire marriage, yet feel tense, fearful, or uneasy when you think about it. That tension is not from God. You might even shut down when you meet people who look like people you can go on a life journey with. That's not from God either. Scripture tells us that perfect peace is available when our minds are stayed on him.
Anxiety is often a sign that our focus has shifted from God’s promise to surrounding noise. The Lord's yoke is easy, and his burden is light, so if you're feeling heavy tension in the area of marriage, you're carrying a burden God didn't intend for you to carry. God does not use anxiety to do a work within us; you might feel anxious as a warning sign, but feeling anxious about marriage generally is an indication of something deeper that you should deal with.
Today, begin by acknowledging what you feel without shame. God does not rebuke you for fear, rather he invites you to bring it to him. He has not given you the spirit of fear but of love, power, and a sound mind.
Prayer:
Father, I acknowledge the fears I carry about marriage. I give You permission to examine my heart and reveal what is not from you. Restore my peace and help me trust you again in Jesus' name. Amen.
