Believable Lies: A 6-Day Reading PlanSample

Lie #1: God Is a Killjoy
One of the oldest lies in the book—literally—is that God doesn’t want you to have any fun. The enemy loves to paint Christianity as a straitjacket, a list of "do nots" designed to rob you of joy. But when we look at the very beginning of the Bible, we see the opposite.
God’s first act toward humanity was blessing, not restriction. In Genesis 1, He gave Adam and Eve the blessing of family, purpose, and authority. He filled their world with "every seed-bearing plant" and "all the fruit trees" for their enjoyment. He created a world designed for human flourishing.
Yes, God gave a boundary—"do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil." But just like a good parent puts a fence around a backyard to keep their kids safe, God’s boundaries are for our protection, not our punishment. The lie says God is holding out on you. The truth is that God knows exactly how you were designed, and His rules are there to maximize your joy, not kill it.
Reflection: What is one area of your life where you’ve viewed God’s commands as restrictive rather than protective?
