The True Measure of Ministry
Titles change, but your name is constant. In ministry, people may call you Brother, Evangelist, Pastor, or Reverend, but who you are in God remains unchanged. The core of your calling lies not in recognition but in fulfilling the purpose God has placed in your life.
Ministry often comes in multiple phases: evangelism, community service, and church leadership. For some, evangelism means traveling to villages, campuses, and cities, sharing the gospel. For others, it means serving in local projects or leading church programs. Regardless of the form, all ministry requires dedication and sacrifice.
1 Chronicles 21 reminds us that actions alone don’t determine righteousness; motives matter. David took a census, not because counting was wrong, but because Satan influenced his motives. God evaluates the heart. This teaches us that in every assignment, whether in church, the workplace, or the community, your inner intention must align with God’s purposes.
Sacrifice, being the backbone of purpose, must also be done with the right motive. True sacrifice involves giving time, energy, and resources even when it’s inconvenient. David said, “I will not offer to my God that which costs me nothing.”
When you embrace sacrifice, God moves. When David offered his, the plague stopped. Without sacrifice, there is no labor, no reward, and no fruit.
