When God Wakes You Up

“Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear” (Isaiah 65:24 NIV).

I was awakened from my sleep by a loud voice: “Pray for the children!”

I sat straight up in bed, heart pounding, breath heavy, a little startled. I looked around and saw my husband sound asleep. The house was still and silent. That’s when I realized it wasn’t a dream. It was God urgently prompting me to pray for our children.

I didn’t hesitate. I grabbed my anointing oil and went to each child’s room, covering them in prayer. That night taught me something I’ll never forget: when God leads you to pray, especially for your children, it’s not the time to delay or debate. It’s time to spring into action.

We live in a world where our children are constantly being shaped by culture, by peers, by media, and yes, by spiritual battles we cannot see. As parents, God has entrusted us with both the privilege and the responsibility to cover our children in prayer.

Prayer is not passive. It’s an act of spiritual warfare. It’s an invitation for God to intervene, guide, and protect. The Holy Spirit knows what our children face even when we don’t. Sometimes He prompts us urgently, like He did that night, because something is happening in the spiritual realm that requires our agreement with His power and promises.

This devotional is an invitation. One that God first extended to me, and now I’m extending to you to cover your children:

• Pray for them: intercede on their behalf.
• Pray over them: declare God’s promises over their lives.
• Pray with them: lead them into God’s presence.

Over the next three days, you’ll be guided through intentional, powerful ways to pray, paired with scripture, reflection, and optional fasting (for example: one meal, social media/entertainment, and family distractions) to deepen your connection with God on their behalf.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for entrusting me with the precious lives of my children. I hear Your call to rise and pray. Give me discernment, wisdom, and boldness to cover them in every season. Align my heart with Yours and teach me to pray according to Your will for their lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
